The only near comparison which many sports fans recognize as a milestone in American history, when Michael Jordan who is arguably the best sports yet, following a brief retirement uttered the words "I'm back" and caused a frenzy across the globe.
Mirroring MJ's image but on a different scene, Jay-Z also dashes back into his former profession and has caused similar excitement to many.
Being admired for his ability to craft lyrics from memory, without the use of pen and paper, being retired surely Jay-Z needed a writing utensil to document his dollars. While on his departure from the rap scene Jay-Z has took up many entrepreneurship ventures including building the lifestyle empire of Roc-A-Wear, a $600 million-a-year company.
As well, Jay-Z has tried his hand in films with, Roc-A-Wear Films, which will debut its film Death Of A Dynasty at this year's Tribeca Film Festival. In addition Jay-Z has broken down barriers for many others to follow; he became the first non-athlete to have a signature sneaker line. The S. Carter shoe broke Reebok's sales records and sold out throughout the company within the first hour of its debut.
Additionally, Jay-Z who is part owner of the New Jersey Nets NBA team seems to invest in very profitable ventures.
Jay-Z is also known for being the best performer in rap, as he headlined the most successful and highest-grossing arena all hip-hop tour in history. Most notably the nationwide, 40 city, Hard Knock Life Tour was completely violence free.
What's more for Jay to do as he has ownership in Armadale, a premium triple distilled vodka and distributes it in the 40/40Club, an upscale sports bar lounge in New York City where he is the co-owner, Atlantic City New Jersey, with plans to open in Los Angeles in 2007, Las Vegas in 2007 and in Singapore in 2008 After being involved with much beneficial investments, and making a name for himself in the business world Jay-Z couldn't help but return to his passion.
In the release of Kingdom Come on November 21, Jay-Z says, "Men lie women lie numbers don't" proves to be true as he silenced critics selling 680,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen Sound Scan the ex-retiree's biggest sales week ever, as well as his ninth No. 1 on the chart. He ties the Rolling Stones for the third-most No. 1s, behind the Beatles with 19 and Elvis Presley with 10.
