Clark Atlanta University's study abroad program is a great way to set your self apart from employment competition while exploring a different culture.
Many students do not know the benefits of studying at an overseas institution. While enrolled at Clark Atlanta University, students can enhance their proficiency in different languages by practicing in a study abroad program.
The study abroad program is directed by Dr. Paul M. Brown. "Study abroad is the most dynamic experience of a student's academic career," Brown said. The study program gives students several opportunities to study in different regions including Africa, Asia, Australia, Central America, Europe and South America.
The study abroad process consists of undergoing an internal review and being cleared by the study abroad office. The student must submit an application, two academic recommendations, a current unofficial transcript, two passport-sized photos and a copy of his/her financial aid award letter.
Every student submitting application information must have at least a 2.5 GPA and be in good social standing with the university. After the application is submitted and reviewed, successful applicants are given permission to search for a specific program.
External scholarship awards have been given to students for the study abroad program. CAU does not offer study abroad scholarships, but it does allow students to use institutional scholarships and federal financial aid to finance their time abroad.
"Students live the experience, they are not just going to school," Brown said. Students are counseled in their selection of a study abroad program to help select appropriate courses and ensure they receive academic credit. "This helps meet the students' needs for where they might want to go," Brown said.
The benefits of the study abroad program include traveling, meeting new and different people, internships, and seeing a difference in economic and political atmosphere. "The study abroad program sets you apart from students who have the same major as you," Brown advised.
All in all, the study abroad program is different from any other organization on campus; the program offers an experience in a different part of the world. This once in a lifetime experience can change your life forever.
