The Clark Atlanta volleyball team had their last home game on Oct. 30, which also served as Senior Night and OH Jennifer Holman's time to shine.
This event confirmed that her college
volleyball career was coming to an end. She is the only graduating senior on the team and this was her last time playing in CAU's gymnasium.
Not only was Holman accompanied by her teammates, her parents, her sisters
from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., but also by the Lady Lions from Paine College, who by the ending result of the game, weren't ready to play. The Panthers won the game with a unanimous 3-0 and no challenge at all.
The Lions kept up more in the second and third games than in the first game. The score at the conclusion of round one was a debasing 30 to 11.
Holman spiked a kill at the end of the first two matches for the game point. She started off hitting lightly, and then the hits started coming to hard and too fast. It was proven in several instances when Holman went up for a spike and the ball dashed right by the other team. She has 310 kills thus far in the season.
The short third game validated that Holman's
last game was a joyride. "I would not have had it any other way," she said at the end of the game. With Paine College being her last home game ever, she modestly
feels that she played well. "I don't ever think I played good because there is always something you can do better."
Coach Wheatley on the other hand begs to differ. "Jennifer Holman played an excellent game. She did everything
that we expected her to do, even above my expectations," he commented on her last game. "It was an excellent way to end her college career at home."
He also has seen her increase her skill and ability every year by at least one-third since he started coaching two years prior. "She has gotten absolutely
better every single season. It's a unique characteristic," Wheatley added.
Holman insisted that her volleyball career won't stop after she graduates. "I'll be coaching somewhere," she predicted
for herself a year from now. "I have to be involved in it some way."
The Panthers next and final match will start on Nov. 6 and end Nov. 9 at the SIAC Tournament. It will be held in Frankfort, Ky. and it is expected that Jennifer Holman
will "help push the Lady Panthers deep into the SIAC Tournament," according to this season's volleyball media guide.
