? Catrise Cannady, a first year member of Clark Atlanta's Lady Panther basketball team, dealt with this problem when she arrived at CAU in fall 2008.
After transferring from Coppin State University it took Cannady sometime to get comfortable.
"At first it was difficult due to the fact of not knowing anyone, and having to adjust to a new environment," said Cannady, a sophomore mass media arts major. "But once I met the team and had the chance to socialize with them, it was easy."
?Cannady, who has been playing basketball since she was nine, uses the game of basketball as her anti-drug. Cannady said, she turns to basketball amidst all of the drama of adjusting to school and a new city.
"Moving to a new city is enough as it is, then there's school," Cannady said. "Basketball makes it easier."
? Cannady said that her ultimate goal is to find her niche on a winning team. She emphasizes team chemistry as a key to the Lady Panthers' success.
"My goal is to win and play team ball," Cannady said.
? Now that Cannady has gotten accustomed to Atlanta and her school routine, she can concentrate on helping her team have a successful season. She said she is anxious to see how things will go during her first season as a Lady Panther.
"We have a good team, we have to prove ourselves. It should be fun," Cannady said. ?"I'm still getting comfortable with the team. All I can do is keep working hard with my teammates."
Once Cannady finishes playing college basketball, she plans on pursuing a professional basketball career overseas in Europe.
The Lady Panthers will play their first game on Nov. 15 at Montevallo University. Their first home game is on Nov. 19 against Talladega College.
