Mr. Atlanta University Center and CAU student, DeMille Cole-Heard, agreed with the focus of Ware's speech. He said, "The purpose was to persuade people to give back to the school for its survival."

He believed if the students, administration and alumni did not take the initiative, then the school would suffer tremendously.

Thomas Cole Jr., the first president of CAU, spoke briefly about the school's progress. He said the school had excelled in many areas, and not so much in some other areas. But he recognized its successful path.

Other convocation highlights were the harmonious renditions from the Philharmonic Society and "Reflections," the collaborative speech by the Undergraduate and Graduate Student Government Association presidents, Le 'Vonn Brown and Pierre Gaither, consecutively.

Both received standing ovations from the crowd. Gaither and Brown used humor to inspire the students, referencing two cartoon characters that would relate to the audience's generation-Pinky and the Brain. The skit received a rolling laughter.

Convocation was held in the Leonidas S. Epps Gymnasium and the theme for the anniversary consolidation observance was, "Achieving greatness-honoring our history and preparing for the future."
