Haiti, CAU and You
Issue date: 2/2/10 Section: News
In the wake of the disaster in Haiti, CAU president Dr. Carlton Brown and a number of staff and student officials are urging students to do their part.
The CAU community held a town hall meeting to discuss what all they can do in an effort to bring relief to this tragedy.
President Brown is strongly encouraging the student body to partner with their brother and sister schools as well as any other institutions in an effort to bring community service back into the forefront.
"You are not isolated from each other. Everything impacts everything," Brown said.
He reminded students that bringing relief to Haiti would be an ongoing commitment. "Our immediate help and their struggle is a long-term matter and it's not going to happen and be over in one day," he said.
CAU created a Haitian Relief Advisory Committee, chaired by Dr. Charles Moses, to coordinate and intense relief efforts.
All money collected will go to UNICEF and The Red Cross. Cash and checks can be donated in all of the offices of the university deans. Credit card donations will only be accepted in the Office of the Vice President for Business and Finance located in Haven-Warren Hall.
There are boxes in the Student Center, Thayer Hall and Heritage Commons where students can donate non-perishable food items, blankets, baby supplies, medical supplies and water.
